How it works

Slugify makes strings safe for URL path segments: lowercase, separators instead of spaces, and usually ASCII-only.

ASCII fold uses Unicode NFKD then drops combining marks (é → e). CJK and other scripts without ASCII decompositions are removed when strict mode is on.

Max length trims on separator boundaries when possible so you do not end on a dangling hyphen.

Examples

Hello World! → hello-world
Café résumé → cafe-resume
foo--bar baz → foo-bar-baz
Product #42 → product-42

FAQ

Why did Chinese characters disappear? Strict ASCII mode removes code points without Latin decompositions. Turn strict off to keep them (may be less portable).

Underscore vs hyphen? Hyphens are conventional in URL slugs; underscores are common in identifiers.

Percent-encoding? This outputs a slug string; the browser encodes when you put it in a URL.

Idempotent? Running twice on a clean slug usually returns the same value.

Uploaded? No.
